I write this article in the busiest time of the year. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The time when the world requires the most of our attention, when really it’s the time when our focus should be most on Christ. Even the calendar on my iPhone can’t keep up with my schedule. The world confuses us the most during these months, asking us to sit at a table and be thankful one month, and days later they beg us to make purchases that do anything but make us thankful.

Luke 10:40-42
But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me. But the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.
How does being busy impact your prayer life?

Which of these two women do you relate to the most? Are you more often like Martha, and too busy to notice opportunities you have to serve Christ where you are at?

Exodus 20:8-11
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

The “Sabbath” means literally to stop, to put an end to, to cease.  What feelings or thoughts are provoked when God tells you to STOP? Is it possible to pause within the schedule / routine of your living at the moment?

1 Timothy 6:9
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

How large of a role does money play in your scheduling / rest? Are you or your family living a lifestyle that uses finances in a way that separates you from God? How are you utilizing your budget?

Proverbs 16:3
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Psalm 90:17
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

Is the world really waiting to hear from you? Or is God doing doing the waiting? Is He trying to speak to you, and you just don’t realize it?
